As a men’s health clinic in the Bay Area, we often get asked about penis health. Many myths and misconceptions exist about men’s bodies and sexual health, so we want to set the record straight.
We hope this article provides valuable information for all the men there. If you have any questions or concerns about your penis health, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
Here are three things every man should know about his penis:
Your Penis Is Not A Muscle
Although a penis can grow bigger and harder like a muscle, it is not a muscle. When a man is sexually excited, the penis fills with blood. Therefore, when it is erect, you cannot move it very much.
Three major structures make up the human penis anatomically:
- Corpora cavernosa: A pair of spongy columns of tissue within the penis that engorge blood as an erection occurs.
- Corpus spongiosum: A small column of spongy tissue that helps keep the urethra (the tube that lets urine leave the body) open.
- Tunica albuginea:The thin layer of connective tissue enclosing the three columns.
Even though this may surprise some, there are no actual muscles in the so-called ‘love muscle,’ contrary to popular belief.
You Can’t Make It Bigger Through Exercise
Stretching, penile traction, and exercise can improve blood flow to the penis, temporarily adding a few centimeters, but flaccid tissue will always return to its natural size. It is impossible to make your penis bigger permanently through exercise.
Your Penis Health Is Important For Your Overall Health
An important part of your health is the health of your penis, which extends beyond getting and keeping an erection, producing sperm, and reproducing. Many health conditions can cause penis problems. You should see a male physician if you are concerned about the health of your penis.
